It’s Committee Week at the Honolulu City Council and the Energy, Environment, and Sustainability Committee will hear Resolution 26-206, which would adopt the City’s 2025–2030 Climate Action Plan. The plan lays out various actions focused on energy, transportation, food systems, waste, and stronger public assets. These actions are designed to support cleaner air, safer streets, lower costs, and stronger communities while advancing Hawaiʻi’s climate goals. The EES committee will also receive an update on the City’s efforts to electrify transportation and transition City operations toward supporting O‘ahu’s sustainability goals.

Apply today! The deadline to apply for the City and County of Honolulu’s Youth Climate Action Fund is Monday, September 14!

The Fund will provide up to $4,999 to qualified youth-led climate projects that make an immediate impact in our Oʻahu communities. Each project must be led by at least two youth leaders between 15-24 years old and one of the following types of mentor organizations:

▪️ Youth-led nonprofit organizations (e.g. youth clubs or groups)
▪️ Youth-serving nonprofit organizations (adult-led organizations supporting young people)
▪️ Schools (public, private, charter), universities, and other educational institutions serving youth ages 15-24

Repost from Hawai‘i Foodbank: The Hawai‘i Department of Human Services has implemented an Automated Mass Replacement (AMR) of 45% of August SNAP benefits for households impacted by Tropical Cyclone Lala.

Current SNAP recipients who were impacted but will not receive AMR have until Sunday, September 13 to apply for additional replacement benefits.

OʻAHU RESIDENTS ASKED TO CONSERVE WATER
DURING POWER OUTAGE

HONOLULU – The Board of Water Supply (BWS) is asking all Oʻahu residents to please use water sparingly and for priority needs only until further notice. This means using water for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene only.

Residents, especially those without power, should keep water use to an absolute minimum and should not fill containers with water. All of the BWS’s pumps need electricity to operate. This means that the BWS will have limited ability to pump water out of its wells and up to reservoirs during a power outage. Until power can be restored, the water left in the reservoirs will be all the water that is available, so it is essential that residents use water sparingly.

Customers without water can call the BWS at (808) 748-5000, ext. 1, and a roving water wagon will be sent to the affected area.
After power is restored, the BWS asks that residents continue to conserve water, as time is required to allow the electrically powered pumps to replenish reservoirs to normal levels.

The BWS will update the community through news reports as more information is gathered. Residents should stay tuned to news reports and consider signing up to receive email, text message or push notification alerts from BWS and other emergency response agencies through HNL Alert. As Oʻahu prepares for potential impacts from Hurricane Lowell, the City and County of Honolulu will be opening a Hurricane Refuge Area at Nānākuli Elementary, Monday, September 7, at 5 p.m.

The City will continue to assess conditions and open additional refuge areas as needed. Refuge hours will be communicated as they are finalized.

The Hurricane Refuge Area at Nānākuli Elementary is pet friendly, but pets must be leashed or in a carrier. Owners are responsible for their pets and should bring necessary supplies.

Those seeking shelter are advised to bring their own food, water, medications, and other essential items.

Residents or visitors seeking shelter here who require transportation can use TheBus routes C or 40, then transfer to Route 403 at Nānākuli Avenue. Transit fares still apply for these routes.

The most current list of shelter locations and updates will be available online and shared through HNL Alert.

No evacuation orders are in place at this time. However, residents are strongly encouraged to monitor conditions closely and take action early if they feel unsafe.
