Shout out to MWW GIS pro, Nick! 💧 👏

It's Feature Friday! Today, we want to spotlight Nicholas Kline! Nicholas is a Senior GIS Developer at City of Milwaukee Water Works who is passionate about connecting the community with the information they need and seeking ways to address challenges.

"I am the Senior GIS Developer for Water Works, where I manage and maintain the Utility's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data. One of the things I enjoy most about GIS is that it can be used for so much more than just making maps. It can bring together information from different systems, connect people with that information, and present it in a way that is easier to access and understand. It can also help connect people, workflows, and information across different teams and departments.

That ability to connect information and turn it into something useful is what I am most passionate about. I've always enjoyed figuring out how things work, getting to the root of a problem, and finding ways to make things better. I like working with people to understand what they're trying to accomplish and to find solutions that not only solve a problem but also help them make better, more informed real-world decisions.

Working for the City allows me to apply that passion in many different ways. I get to work with people across Water Works and other City departments, learn about what they do and the challenges they face, and look for ways GIS can help. Sometimes that means improving workflows, making information easier to find and understand, or helping different groups work together more effectively by simplifying how they share and access data.

There's always something new to learn or a different problem to figure out, and the variety of work—as well as the people I get to work with—is a big part of why I love working for the City."

We are proud to have you on our City team, and we thank you for all you do!

This week, Milwaukee Water Works participated in Waves of Change, a week-long environmental careers course through the Environmental Youth Collaborative that gives participants a firsthand look at careers in water quality and environmental health.

Participants got a close-up look at drinking water quality testing through a hands-on activity, toured the Linnwood Water Treatment Plant, and spoke with Water Works staff, including a water chemist and microbiologist, water treatment plant operator, and Water Superintendent Patrick Pauly.

Thank you to Reflo and Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District - MMSD for organizing this behind-the-scenes visit and creating an opportunity for Water Works subject matter experts to share their education and career journeys.

Not only does Benjamin help keep Milwaukee’s water flowing, he also represented Water Works on the national stage at the 2026 Top Ops competition! We are lucky to have him on our team.

It's Feature Friday! Today, we want to spotlight Benjamin Alexander! Benjamin is a Systems Operator at the City of Milwaukee Water Works and is proud to play a part in keeping the community healthy.

"I work as a systems operator for the Milwaukee Water Works. Most of the time, that means I’m in the control room turning pumps on and off to maintain water pressure around the City. The Milwaukee Water Works serves clean water to a million people, and it’s my job to make sure that the water stays clean as it’s getting to your tap.

Working for the City has been an amazing experience. Every day I get to pat myself on the back for keeping our community healthy, and that is an incredible feeling. I also get to have experiences like going to Washington, D.C., for the Top Ops competition at ACE 2026 and meeting incredible industry leaders in our country and around the world. Going to D.C. and competing on a national stage was incredible, and I am so thankful to the City for affording me that opportunity.

I love learning, and working in a positive and encouraging environment like the City of Milwaukee makes it easy. Learning is a passion of mine, and I tell everyone who will listen that the City is the best place in the world to become the best person you can be!"

We are proud to have you on our City team, and we thank you for all you do!

Thank you, Allison, for your commitment to protecting Lake Michigan and delivering safe, great-tasting drinking water to Milwaukee families every day.

It's Feature Friday! Today, we want to spotlight Allison Driskill! Allison is Operator-In-Charge at City of Milwaukee Water Works and proudly represented the City, along with members of the MWW team, in the Top Ops competition at the national AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) in DC!

"My role is Operator-in-Charge at the Linnwood Water Purification Plant. I am responsible for ensuring that the tap water from our treatment plant meets the standards of the City of Milwaukee, the Wisconsin DNR, the EPA, and the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

I adjust treatment processes in response to changing raw water quality and perform regular maintenance across various aspects of the plants. I love working for the City of Milwaukee because it’s where I live, and I am invested in creating delicious, safe drinking water for my family and the Milwaukee community.

I am passionate about preserving our natural resources, especially the invaluable resource of Lake Michigan. We are so lucky to be living next to such a large freshwater resource, and I am humbled that I get to work with (and drink!) Lake Michigan water every day. It was great to represent the City of Milwaukee by competing in the Top Ops competition at the national AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) in DC. Winning the state Top Ops competition in Madison last September was also a great experience – plus we got to put a cool plaque on the wall. I hope to continue to be part of the team representing Wisconsin at the ACE event in San Diego next year!"

We are proud to have you on our City team, and we thank you for all you do!
