Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to celebrate National Night Out in North Philadelphia and Fox Chase. We had a great time talking to people, sharing resources and updates on projects, and getting some sweet treats! Thank you to for organizing, and for everyone who came out to events around the city.

We're one week into a coordinated campaign to crack down on aggressive driving across the region.

Last week, we joined Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), PA State Police, Philadelphia Police Department and Bicycle Coalition of Gtr Phila to emphasize the importance of driving safely. The targeted enforcement focuses on heavy-truck violations, pedestrian safety, red-light running, speeding, and tailgating. Drivers who engage in other unsafe behaviors, such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or making careless lane changes, will also face citations. Let's work together to make our roads safer for everyone.

Earlier this summer, Urban Institute released a report about the impact of City of Philadelphia's Zero Fare Pilot Program. Zero Fare provides free, unlimited ISEPTAPHILLY access to more than 25,000 Philadelphians living near or below the poverty level. Funded by the William Penn Foundation, the evaluation shows that Zero Fare keeps Philly moving. We caught up with Vision Zero Ambassador and lifelong Eastwick resident Dr. Sheena Howard | Writer to talk about the new Philadelphia Streets Department of Transportation upgrades at Island Avenue and Lindbergh Boulevard. A redesign with new street signs, trolley shelters, bike lanes, and crossing signals make this intersection safer for everyone – from residents trying to get their groceries to people visiting John Heinz NWR.

This project reaffirms the City of Philadelphia’s commitment to Vision Zero, and advances our shared goal of improving traffic safety on every mile of the High Injury Network. Check it out when you’re in the area!

‼️There’s still time to complete our Chinatown Stitch summer engagement survey‼️ We’re looking for community feedback on the design of the playground, future The Rail Park connection, and Winter Street landscape. So far, we’ve heard from hundreds of people – both at our summer engagement pop ups around Chinatown and through our online survey. This feedback will help inform future planning and design work.

Last week, we celebrated the installation of new planters along the 47th Street Bikeway in West Philadelphia. These planters do more than improve the streetscape - they make the bike lane even safer by creating an additional barrier to prevent cars from driving through. We're excited to roll these out in four more Council Districts later this year, and expand the program even more over the next four years. They'll be placed in strategic locations to incentivize safe traffic behavior. Thank you to our partners in Office of Clean and Green and Philadelphia Streets Department of Transportation for the collaboration on this project that will make Philadelphia safer, cleaner, and greener for everyone - no matter how they get around.
