After over 25 years of local efforts, I am thrilled that nearly 2,200 acres of our Central Coast lands near Avila Beach at Wild Cherry Canyon will be preserved for future generations. Across every year in the State Legislature, I have worked to ensure needed funding for land acquisition was allocated and I am grateful for the State Coastal Conservancy’s approval of $42 million for conservation today.

I’m frustrated and deeply concerned by the repeat fire at Moss Landing.

Early this morning I received initial briefings on the Moss Landing battery energy storage fire.

Although initial cleanup and battery removal, under the supervision of the federal EPA, were completed two weeks ago, 1,500 hard-to-access batteries remain in the damaged area of the facility.

This incident is ongoing, and we don’t yet know all details.

I strongly ask surrounding communities to follow all safety instructions from emergency services.

The recent incident of someone dressed in K*K garb is abhorrent and cannot be tolerated. Hate-fueled organizations like this have a long and traumatizing history of terrorizing communities and committing violence. We cannot ignore this brazen disregard for that harm. Thank you to every community member who is speaking up and continuing to uphold our shared values. No one should feel unsafe in San Luis Obispo or any community.

I applaud the Supreme Court for upholding the U.S. Constitution by ensuring that elections remain free and fair—especially by protecting the right to vote by mail. The attempts by the Trump Administration to undermine the core tenets of our democracy showcase why we need laws on the books in California to protect our electoral processes. Excited to see AB 1539 and AB 2691 move to the Governor’s Desk to restore faith in our elections.

We also remember the heroism that was shown by first responders and everyday Americans, who came together in an unprecedented crisis to protect their neighbors and strangers alike.
