MCFR crews are currently out on two separate structure fire Incidents. One off east 9th street and another out on Browns Creek. Both incidents are currently in mop up. Our team is being supported by neighboring agencies and law enforcement.

MCFR crews were dispatched at 7:39 PM to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of E. 14th St., following reports of an oxy-acetylene tank explosion.
Engine 21, Truck 23, Chiefs 21 and 24, along with Fire Medic units 21, 22, and 25, The Dalles Police Department and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office responded.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire primarily to the garage. At this time, there are no reported injuries.
MCFR personnel will remain on scene for the next couple of hours.

MCFR crews are working with ODF and USFS off River Road. Crews will be in the area for the next few hours. Fire is knocked down at this time. Thank you to all our partners for the assistance!

New fire‑detection cameras are expanding across the Columbia River Gorge — and that’s a serious upgrade for early wildfire detection.
We appreciate Google’s investment right here in our community and the strong partnership with the University of Oregon Hazards Lab. With this tech in place, we’ll spot smoke faster in the most rural areas and help us respond sooner.

New AI-powered wildfire detection cameras are coming to Wasco County and the Columbia Gorge. The expansion near The Dalles is backed by a $250,000 Google grant aimed at helping crews spot and respond to fires faster.

Our crews have been busy the last few weeks training and running drills on Wildland Tactics, Remote Water Supply, Aerial Operations and High Angle Rope Rescue Systems.

As EMS Week 2026 comes to a close, Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue would like to recognize the dedication, professionalism, and compassion of our EMS providers who serve our community every day.

From 911 emergency response and advanced life support care to ambulance transport, training, public education, and support during large-scale incidents, our crews continue to meet the needs of The Dalles and the surrounding communities with skill and commitment.

EMS is more than responding to calls. It is long hours, difficult decisions, constant training, teamwork, and showing up for people on what may be the worst day of their lives. Our firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, officers, and support staff represent the very best of public service.

Thank you to our MCFR members for your hard work and dedication. Thank you also to our dispatchers, law enforcement partners, hospitals, air medical providers, neighboring fire and EMS agencies, and community partners who work alongside us to provide quality emergency care throughout the Columbia River Gorge.

We are proud to serve this community.
