🎉 Join us in celebrating RJ, our Virginia Beach Employee of the Month!

RJ has been part of the Reliance team for over 7 years and serves as an EMT-B, Field Training Officer, and Alternate Operations Supervisor. Across all three roles, his focus is on supporting his coworkers, patients, and their families.

He says his inspiration to pursue healthcare came from people he met growing up, friends, and even TV characters, all helping shape his desire to care for others. As RJ puts it, “Compassion and kindness saved me, so I've been inspired to pay it forward.” Today, his wife, Tina, and close friends and coworkers Kazi, Connor, Jeni, and Josef continue to inspire him.

His advice for those starting in EMS? Take long days one hour and one call at a time, and remember the difference you can make for a patient. Someone may be experiencing the worst day of their life, and RJ believes every patient deserves our full compassion and medical expertise throughout their care.

What keeps him motivated on the job? Free Wawa ice and water, traveling across Virginia, and keeping the ambulance clean and comfortable to help maintain a positive atmosphere. Becoming an FTO and supervisor has also given him opportunities to make a lasting, positive impact on coworkers and patients, something he has always valued.

When we asked RJ what he does outside of work, he said:

"I play in a volleyball league year-round that I absolutely have fallen in love with! Honestly, I fill my free time with anything and everything except for anything horror-related. If anyone has any "experience" type suggestions, feel free to send them my way!"

Thank you, RJ, for the kindness, compassion, and support you bring to our Virginia Beach team.💙

Congratulations to Ashton, our Fayetteville September Employee of the Month!

Ashton serves as a Field Training Officer (FTO) and EMT-B and will celebrate his second anniversary with Reliance next month. He says his main focus each day is caring for patients and helping them feel as comfortable and at ease as possible while receiving the care they need.

His interest in healthcare began with his childhood pediatrician, who showed him that dedicating your life to helping others was a worthy endeavor. Today, that perspective continues to motivate Ashton: “Each and every patient deserves the best care we can provide.”

For those starting their careers in EMS, Ashton's advice is the importance of recognizing where you can improve and being willing to ask questions. “No one is perfect at everything; there is always room to grow.” During his time at Reliance, he says he has grown into a more professional caregiver.

And a fun fact about Ashton? In middle school, he memorized 50 digits of pi for a competition with his friends!

Thank you, Ashton, for your commitment to our patients and your willingness to keep learning and growing. We’re proud to have you on the Fayetteville team!
