Following an exchange of pleasantries, Minister Marin and Ambassador Yamakura engaged in a productive dialogue on several matters of mutual concern and regional security. His Excellency apprised the Minister on the scope and strategic focus of Japanese diplomatic missions currently operating in the Western Hemisphere, underscoring Japan's commitment to fostering international stability.

Ambassador Yamakura proposed some upcoming engagements aimed at bringing together the security forces of both nations.

The Minister and Ambassador expressed strong enthusiasm for this partnership emphasizing to collaborate on the planning and eventual ex*****on of these engagements.

The visit concluded with both reaffirming their dedication to maintaining open lines of communication and working towards peace and security objectives in Belize and the region.

On Tuesday, Minister Marin had the distinct pleasure of meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize, H.E. Amino Chi.

Discussions focused on deepening cooperation in defence, security, and capacity building, as we continue to work together to safeguard Belize and promote regional stability.

The Belize Defence Force advises the public of the implementation of enhanced medical and fitness screening procedures for all individuals seeking to enlist.
This policy ensures that all recruits are physically and mentally prepared for the demands of military training. Comprehensive assessments, including BMI, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and mental health evaluations, will now be required prior to enlistment.
Individuals identified as “at risk” will be temporarily deferred, not denied, and may reapply once measurable improvements in health and fitness are achieved.
This initiative reflects the BDF’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its members while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and operational readiness.

Florencio Marin Jr., Minister, and Major (Ret'd) Francis Usher, Chief Executive Officer, extend sincere congratulations to Captain Gregory Soberanis on his assumption of command as Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard, and on his promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral.

We express full confidence in his leadership as he assumes responsibility for safeguarding Belize’s maritime domain and advancing the operational readiness and professionalism of the Coast Guard.

The Ministry also conveys its deepest appreciation to Rear Admiral Elton Bennett for his exemplary service and steadfast leadership over the past six years. His tenure has strengthened the Coast Guard’s institutional capacity and its vital role in national and regional maritime security. The Government and people of Belize remain grateful for his distinguished contribution to national defence.

In the same spirit, the Ministry extends congratulations to Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez on his appointment as Commander of the Belize Defence Force.
