Fair housing has long been a bipartisan commitment.

For decades, Congress has recognized the importance of investing in local fair housing organizations that help people understand their rights, investigate housing discrimination, and enforce the protections of the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

Today, that longstanding commitment is at risk. Recent HUD actions could prevent experienced, community-based organizations from receiving the funding they need to continue serving people facing housing discrimination.

During Fair Housing Week of Action, we're calling on Congress to protect the local organizations that make fair housing protections meaningful in communities across the country.

We’re so close to reaching our goal of 5,000 messages! Send a message to your members of Congress today: https://bit.ly/FairHousingAction2026Member

Housing discrimination doesn't end when funding to fight it disappears.

During this Fair Housing Week of Action, we're highlighting what's at stake if local fair housing organizations lose the federal funding they rely on to serve communities across the country.

These organizations are often the first place people turn to when experiencing housing discrimination. They help veterans secure reasonable accommodations, support seniors and people with disabilities seeking accessible housing, assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and advocate for families and individuals facing unlawful discrimination because of their race, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, familial status, or other protected characteristics.

Without these organizations, many people could be left to navigate housing discrimination alone.

Join us in calling on Congress to protect local fair housing organizations and preserve critical fair housing enforcement: https://bit.ly/FairHousingAction2026Member

Thank you to social justice advocate and creator RaeShanda Lias for helping shine a light on the importance of fair housing enforcement.

SWFHC is sharing her message as part of the National Fair Housing Alliance’s Fair Housing Week of Action, a nationwide initiative to send 5,000 messages to Congress in support of fair housing programs and organizations assisting those facing housing discrimination.

These resources are essential for families with children, people with disabilities, renters, homebuyers, and communities working to ensure equal access to housing.

Please watch RaeShanda’s video, share this message, and add your voice in support of fair housing protections.

Local fair housing organizations have been on the front lines of fighting housing discrimination for decades. But today, many are at risk of closure.

Recent HUD actions could prevent experienced local organizations from receiving the federal funding they need to investigate discrimination, educate communities, and enforce the protections guaranteed under the Fair Housing Act of 1968. Without that funding, those critical organizations may be forced to close, layoff staff or significantly reduce services.

These organizations handle more than 70% of housing discrimination cases nationwide. If they disappear, countless individuals and families could lose trusted advocates when they need one most.

Now is the time to act.

Our goal is to send 5,000 messages to Congress urging lawmakers to:
✔️ Protect local fair housing organizations
✔️ Preserve fair housing enforcement
✔️ Ensure communities continue to have access to critical support

Send a message to your members of Congress today and help protect fair housing in communities across the country: https://bit.ly/FairHousingAction2026Member

Families with children are protected under fair housing law. But those protections only matter when people have somewhere to turn.

This week, the National Fair Housing Alliance is calling on people across the country to contact their members of Congress and support critical community-based fair housing programs. These programs help local organizations educate the public, investigate housing discrimination, and support people who may have been denied housing or treated unfairly.

For families, this matters. Fair housing law generally protects households with children under 18 from discrimination, including being denied housing, steered away from certain units, or subjected to different rules or conditions because children live in the home.

Local fair housing organizations help make these protections real.

You can help today by asking Congress to support fair housing enforcement and funding.

Fair housing law protects families with kids under 18 from being denied housing, steered away from certain homes, or treated unfairly just because children live in the household. Local fair housing organizations make these protections real every day.
