Protecting the ozone layer remains essential to safeguarding the environment and human well-being, while supporting the transition towards more sustainable and energy-efficient cooling solutions.

As Namibia continues to strengthen its efforts in protecting the ozone layer, the Ministry in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), celebrated the World Ozone Day 2026 today under the theme “Global Action for a Cooler Planet” at the UN Plaza in Katutura.

Various speakers highlighted the importance of promoting environmentally responsible practices within the refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) sector, particularly through skills development, the safe handling, proper recovery of refrigerants, and improved access to appropriate recovery equipment for technicians and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The transition to environmentally friendly refrigerants and sustainable cooling technologies, as well as safe disposal of RACs presents opportunities for technological advancement growth of a more resilient cooling sector in Namibia.

The event concluded with an exhibition showcasing sustainable cooling technologies and solutions for the public to gain practical knowledge on approaches that can contribute to a cooler and more sustainable planet.

MEDIA STATEMENT: MINISTRY CLARIFIES THE JET A-1 AVIATION FUEL SUPPLY SITUATION AND CORRECTS MISCONCEPTIONS REGARDING THE GOVERNMENT-DIRECTED FUEL SUPPLY ARRANGEMENT

View the official media statement addressing the current Jet A-1 aviation fuel availability challenges:

* Product Quarantine: A Jet A-1 consignment was quarantined at Walvis Bay for quality verification and was isolated before entering the supply chain, no off-spec fuel was supplied to any aircraft.
* Commercial Matter: The supply constraint stems from a commercial inter-company arrangement between Puma Energy Namibia and Vivo Energy Namibia, with replacement product arriving this Saturday.
* Not Linked to Vitol Deal: Jet A-1 is a non-controlled commercial product and is entirely separate from the Government-direct petrol and diesel arrangement with Vitol.
* Supply Continuity: We are actively collaborating with the Namibia Airports Company, suppliers, and airlines to safeguard operations and minimize flight disruptions.
