Strong Finnish presence at URBIS 2026 in Brno 🇫🇮🇨🇿

🌆URBIS – The Smart Cities Meetup 2026 (2–4 June) brought together leading experts, innovators, and public sector representatives to share solutions for smarter, more sustainable cities. This year’s edition focused on key themes such as mobility, digitalization, energy, and urban resilience—once again confirming URBIS as one of Central Europe’s most important platforms for city innovation.

👏A highlight of the event was the strong participation of Finnish experts, supported by a Czech Embassy project in Helsinki. Finland, a long-time leader in smart city solutions, showcased its approach to collaboration between cities, sustainable urban development, and smart mobility. Finnish representatives also met with Czech partners, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and sharing know-how.

🇨🇿🇫🇮Throughout the event, Finnish experts engaged with regional innovation networks, cities, and research institutions, exploring opportunities for deeper Czech-Finnish collaboration and identifying complementary strengths.

🚊The program culminated with presentations of Finnish “living labs”—real-world environments where new technologies are tested in practice. Examples included autonomous transport solutions already operating in cities like Tampere, demonstrating how innovation can improve accessibility, safety, and sustainability. A notable collaboration is also underway between Finland and Czechia on autonomous tram development, linking Finnish testing environments with Czech industrial expertise.

🇨🇿 Last week we hosted a delegation from the Advance Healthcare Management Institute in Prague to strengthen cooperation in health and social services. 🧑‍⚕️

🇫🇮 The visit included meetings with leading Finnish organizations, including the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, Nordic Healthcare Group, Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County, LähiTapiola, Helsinki University Hospital, and Mehiläinen and BeeHealthy.

🏥Discussions focused on healthcare financing, digital health, senior care, insurance models, and sustainable hospital reforms in response to demographic aging.

🤝The visit confirmed the mutual interest of Czech and Finnish partners in developing professional cooperation and sharing experiences in the field of modern healthcare and social services.

The visit of President of Finland 🇫🇮 Alexander Stubb to the Czech Republic 🇨🇿 reaffirmed strong bilateral relations and shared priorities between both countries.

President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel welcomed President Stubb to Prague Castle on Monday, 4 May 2026.

Their discussions focused on the security situation in Europe and globally, including the future of European security, strengthening the European pillar of NATO, continued support for Ukraine, and Europe’s response to shifts in U.S. foreign policy.

“Russia remains one of the most significant threats Europe faces, regardless of how and when the war in Ukraine ends. We agreed that European security must rely on its own capacities and a much stronger willingness to defend itself independently – even without the United States, if necessary,” President Pavel stated.

On Tuesday, 5 May 2026, both leaders jointly opened the Czech-Finnish Business Forum and spoke at the conference “Europe as a Task.” President Pavel emphasized that the Czech Republic should play a more active role within the European Union. 🇪🇺

During his visit, President Stubb also held talks with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Tomio Okamura, and First Vice-President of the Senate Jiří Drahoš. 🤝
