Síðast liðin tvö ár hefur Tinna Þuríður Sigurðardóttir verið fulltrúi Íslands hjá Öndvegissetri Evrópu um fjölþáttaógnir (Hybrid CoE) í Helsinki. Í störfum sínum hefur hún haldið fyrirlestra um fjölþáttaógnir og netöryggi, skipulagt ráðstefnur og námskeið fyrir þátttökulönd setursins. Tinna lýkur nú störfum og fer aftur til Seðlabankans, þar sem hún mun nýta reysluna frá Helsinki til þess að efla varnir Íslands. Starfsfólk sendiráðsins þakkar Tinnu fyrir ánægjulegt samstarfs og óskar henni alls hins besta.

For the past two years, Tinna Þuríður Sigurðardóttir has represented Iceland at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE) in Helsinki.

During her time at Hybrid CoE, Tinna has contributed greatly to the Centre’s work, giving lectures on hybrid threats and cybersecurity and organising conferences and training courses for participating countries.

Tinna is now concluding her assignment in Helsinki and returning to the Central Bank of Iceland, where she will bring with her the valuable experience and knowledge gained in Helsinki to help strengthen Iceland’s resilience and security.

The Embassy team would like to thank Tinna for two years of excellent and enjoyable cooperation. We wish her all the very best and every success in her next chapter.

🇮🇸🤝🇪🇪 Closing Event at Iceland Square

The final engagement of President Halla Tómasdóttir’s state visit to Estonia took place at Iceland Square in Tallinn, where the President officially opened the redesigned square and addressed guests gathered for the occasion.

The square carries a special meaning in the relationship between our two countries. Iceland was the first country in the world to recognise Estonia’s restored independence in 1991, and Iceland Square was named in Tallinn in recognition of this historic gesture of friendship and solidarity.

In her remarks, President Halla Tómasdóttir reflected on the many inspiring examples of innovation in education encountered throughout the visit and highlighted Estonia’s strong and long-term commitment to investing in education, culture and human capital.

The renewed Iceland Square now stands as a lasting symbol of the close friendship between Iceland and Estonia, a friendship rooted in shared history, mutual respect and solidarity.

A truly memorable, unforgettable and heartwarming event and a beautiful way to bring the state visit to a close. 🇮🇸🇪🇪

🇮🇸🤝🇪🇪 Strengthening business ties between Iceland and Estonia

During President Halla Tómasdóttir’s official visit to Estonia, she was accompanied by an Icelandic business delegation led by Business Iceland, bringing together representatives from 15 Icelandic companies.

The delegation took part in the Estonia–Iceland Business Forum, opened by Icelandic Minister of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education Logi Már Einarsson and Estonian Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas.

The forum focused on AI, innovation, health technology and cybersecurity areas where Iceland and Estonia share strong expertise and significant potential for cooperation.

The programme also featured an engaging “AI for Good” fireside chat between President Halla Tómasdóttir and President Alar Karis, exploring the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and how we can ensure that AI benefits people and society.

The delegation also visited Estonian companies and institutions, gaining valuable insights into Estonia’s dynamic innovation ecosystem.

The business programme was organised by Business Iceland in cooperation with the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Icelandic Industries, Embassy of Iceland and partners in Estonia.

A great opportunity to connect businesses, exchange ideas and build new partnerships between Iceland and Estonia. 🇮🇸🇪🇪

And that the moment I decided to move here had as much to do with the landscape, the horses and the strange energy of the place as it did with the man I met in a bar on my sixth visit 😄

State Visit of the President of Iceland to Estonia

From 19–21 August, the presidential couple, President Halla Tómasdóttir and Mr Björn Skúlason, paid a state visit to Estonia, hosted by President Alar Karis and his wife, Ms Sirje Karis. The visit aimed to further strengthen the close and friendly relations between Iceland and Estonia.

The official programme included a welcome ceremony, discussions on bilateral relations and shared priorities, as well as visits focusing on AI, education, innovation and cybersecurity. The presidential couple also took part in the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Estonia’s independence.

Accompanying the president was an Icelandic business delegation, led by Business Iceland which took part in an Estonia–Iceland Business Forum, opened by Icelandic Minister of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education Mr Logi Már Einarsson and Estonian Minister of Education and Research Ms Kristina Kallas. The forum focused on AI, innovation, health technology and cybersecurity, and was followed by a particularly engaging “AI for Good” fireside chat between President Halla Tómasdóttir and President Alar Karis. They discussed the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and ways to ensure that it benefits the public and society.

The visit concluded with the inauguration of the newly renovated Iceland Square in Tallinn, redesigned by a team of young designers from Estonia and Iceland, drawing inspiration from Icelandic nature and architecture. The square, that stands in front of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a lasting symbol of the strong friendship between our two countries. 🤝

🇪🇪 🇮🇸 On August 12, 2026, Ambassador Nína Björk Jónsdóttir presented her credentials to H.E. Mr Alar Karis, President of Estonia.

The ceremony took place in the Presidential Palace at Kadriorg in Tallinn, followed by a brief meeting.

“Estonia and Iceland are bound by deep friendship, shared values and a vision for a peaceful and prosperous world. It is a profound honour to begin my mission in Estonia and I look forward to continuing to nurture and deepen the close ties between our peoples,” said Ambassador Nína Björk Jónsdóttir.

🇫🇮🇮🇸We are pleased to welcome our new Ambassador to Finland!

Ms Nína Björk Jónsdóttir, Ambassador-designate of Iceland to Finland, who has last week submitted copies of her Letters of Credence to Mr Mika Koskinen, Head of Protocol at the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassador expressed her sincere thanks for the warm welcome she has received in Helsinki. "The ties between our countries are deep and longstanding and I look forward to nurturing and strenghtening the excellent cooperation between our countries,“ says Nína.
