The Sovereign also reiterated the consistent, unwavering and unchanged position of the Kingdom of Morocco on the Palestinian Question and the pioneering role of the Kingdom in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
It is in this context that His Majesty the King welcomed the reviving of cooperation mechanisms between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel, and the resumption of regular contacts, within the framework of peaceful and friendly diplomatic relations.
For his part, the Israeli Prime Minister assured His Majesty of his determination to implement all the commitments made, according to a precise schedule of implementation.

Referring to the telephone conversation held between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Donald Trump, on 10 December 2020, and to the historic statements issued on the same day by them, and by His Excellency Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the State of Israel, announcing the opening of a new era in the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel;

Welcoming the opportunity created through the extraordinary efforts and leadership of the United States;

Highlighting the proclamation by the United States of America on “Recognizing the Sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over the Western Sahara”, according to which:

- “To facilitate progress toward this aim, the United States will encourage economic and social development with Morocco, including in the Western Sahara territory, and to that end will open a consulate in the Western Sahara territory, in Dakhla, to promote economic and business opportunities for the region”.

Recalling the exchanged views, during the same conversation between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency Donald Trump, on the current situation in the Middle East region in which His Majesty the King reiterated the coherent, constant and unchanged position of the Kingdom of Morocco on the Palestinian question, as well as the position expressed on the importance of preserving the special status of the sacred city of Jerusalem for the three monotheistic religions in His Majesty the King’s capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee;

Recognizing the historic role that Morocco has always played in bringing the people of the region closer together and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, and given the special ties that His Majesty maintains with the Moroccan Jewish community living in Morocco and throughout the world including in Israel;

Mindful that the establishment of full diplomatic, peaceful and friendly relations is in the common interest of both countries and will advance the cause of peace in the region, improve regional security, and unlock new opportunities for the whole region;

Recalling the conversation between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency Donald Trump, His Majesty the King affirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel intend to:

- Grant authorizations for direct flights between Morocco and Israel, including by Israeli and Moroccan airline companies, as well as grant rights of overflight;

President Trump promulgated a presidential decree, with all that this act entails as an undeniable legal and political force and with immediate effect, on the decision of the United States of America to recognize, for the first time in its history, the full sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over the entire region of the #Moroccan_Sahara.

In this context, and as the first concrete expression of its sovereign initiative of great importance, the United States of America has decided to open a consulate in #Dakhla, with a primarily economic vocation, to encourage U.S. investments and contribution to economic and social development, mainly for the benefit of the inhabitants of the southern provinces.

COVID 19 vaccine free of charge for all Moroccans :

Statement by the Royal Office

"His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, has given His high Instructions to the Government to adopt free-of-charge vaccination against the COVID-19 epidemic for the benefit of all Moroccans.
This lofty Royal gesture draws its essence from the sovereign's continuous high royal solicitude and human benevolence towards all components of the Moroccan people since the outbreak of the first cases of this virus in Morocco.
It also falls within the framework of the high royal guidelines aimed at launching a mass vaccination operation against this epidemic, in the coming weeks. It aims to ensure the vaccine for all Moroccans as an adequate means of immunization against the virus and to contain its spread in the perspective of a gradual return of citizens, God willing, to their normal life in peace and security.
His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, had chaired on November 9, a working session dedicated to the vaccination strategy against Covid-19, as part of the continuous monitoring by the Sovereign of the evolution of this pandemic and measures to fight its spread and protect the health and safety of citizens."

Climate Change Performance Index 2021: Morocco 🇲🇦 Ranks 7th

Bonn - Morocco was ranked 7 out of 57 on the Climate Change Performance Index 2021, published on Monday.
The Kingdom lost one spot compared to the 2020 ranking.

The CCPI analyzes and compares climate protection across 57 countries (plus EU as a whole) with the highest emissions. Together these countries account for 90 percent of global emissions. The index aims to enhance transparency in international climate politics and enable comparison of mitigation efforts and progress made by individual countries.

The Index is published by Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and the Climate Action Network.

Two other developing countries are also among the top ten in the ranking: Chile (9th) and India (10th).

According to Stephan Singer, Senior Advisor at the Global Energy Policies of Climate Action Network: "The largest fossil fuel exporting and producing countries representing less than 10% of global population, the United States, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Australia are rightly at the bottom of the table. They are among the highest carbon polluters and the highest energy consumers. None of them have any useful federal climate policy in place to reduce carbon pollution. That shows the influential power of the fossil fuel industries in these countries. On the other hand, we see many smaller nations like Portugal, Morocco, Chile and others in Europe which perform much better. As civil society, to combat the climate crisis effectively, we need to dismantle the business model of the fossil fuel companies worldwide."

Sweden (4th place, category “high”) remains an international frontrunner in climate protection for the fourth year in a row.

"However, Sweden is no "climate role model" either. Like every other country so far it is not yet on a path to achieving the targets of the Paris Agreement (which is also why the first three places of the CCPI remain vacant)," the index report underlines.

"On the other hand, Sweden is setting standards in greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy and climate policy (rated in the top group for each). The very high energy consumption per capita (49th place) prevents the country from achieving an even better evaluation. In the overall ranking, the United Kingdom (5th) and Denmark (6th) follow. Portugal (from 25th to 17th place) and New Zealand (from 37th to 28th) are among the biggest climbers. Japan also climbed six places (from 51st to 45th) but still receives the rating “low” (last year: “very low”). On the other hand, Slovenia (from 44th to 51st), Spain (from 34th to 41st), Belgium (from 35th to 40th) and Greece (from 28th to 34th) have shown the most decline," the source adds.

UN Welcomes Holding in Tangier of Consultative Meeting of Libyan House of Representatives
24 November 2020 Printable Version
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the holding in Morocco of a large consultative meeting of members of the Libyan House of Representatives, whose works began on Tuesday in Tangier.
"UNSMIL is encouraged by the large consultative session of the House of Representatives in Tangier and is being hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco," the UN mission said in a statement published on its Twitter page.

"That such a diverse range of Parliamentarians from Libya's three regions is meeting under one roof is a positive and welcome step," it added.

"UNSMIL has always supported the unity of the House of Representatives and we hope the institution will respond to the aspirations of the Libyan people to implement the roadmap agreed upon by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum towards the holding of national elections on December 24, 2021," the statement underlined.
This consultative meeting is held on November 23-25 in Tangier with the participation of over 100 members of the Libyan Lower House representing different political currents.

This is the first meeting in several years of the Libyan institution, considered as "the only legitimate body since its election in 2014."
The meeting will be an opportunity to set the agenda for another official session of the Libyan House of Representatives to be held in Libya
