(EN) Yesterday we celebrated & Beyond with in the wonderful setting of Rosebud Books in the old Postitalo in Helsinki. Embassy handed out Irish literature from over 20 Irish authors and more were on display and sale at the bookshop.

Thank you to PhD Lauri Niskanen from the James Joyce Society of Sweden & Finland for remarks on Joyce and Bloomsday, to the Society's reading circle on the insightful discussion on Ulysses and Helsinki Harps Folk Group musicians Barry, Cameron & Lauri for the Irish music! And of course all the people who attended the event!

(FI) Kiitos kaikille jotka osallistuivat eiliseen Bloomsday & Beyond tilaisuuteen Postitalon Rosebud kirjakaupassa! Suurlähettiläs Paul Sherlock avasi tilaisuuden, jonka jälkeen tutkija Lauri Niskanen alusti Bloomsday ja James Joyce aiheesta. Sen jälkeen yleisö pääsi seuraamaan avointa lukupiiriä Odysseus kirjan kappaleesta 15. Tapahtuman päätteeksi Helsinki Harps Folk Groupin muusikot esittivät muutaman irlantilaisen kappaleen.

On this day,13 June 1865, William Butler Yeats was born in Sandymount, Ireland. He went on to become one of Ireland's most well-known poets and writers. To mark his birthday, here is one of his poems "When You Are Old".

From July to December 2026, Ireland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union – a central leadership role at the heart of EU decision-making.

For six months, Ireland will guide negotiations, broker agreement between Member States, and help deliver EU laws and policies that affect the daily lives of more than 450 million people.
